Sweden's 1-0 win over South Korea in their opening fixture of the 2018 World Cup was a special moment for many, but it was particularly special for veteran Marcus Berg and his young son.

Though he has more than 50 Sweden caps under his belt the 31-year-old striker had never played at a World Cup before making his bow in Nizhny Novgorod on Monday, and watching dad appear on the world’s biggest stage was just too much for four-year-old Leonel.

Berg's wife Josefine Ringblom Berg shared a video on her Instagram profile of the striker's biggest fan in tears as it all unfolded in Russia, writing "I looked down at Leonel and saw tears falling slowly down his cheeks. Our boy watching his hero entering the #worldcup stage. It was like everything froze, so beautiful and pure".

"This is the best way to describe how proud we are over you Marcus Berg. You are and will always be our hero."

Once second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Berg has stepped up and excelled since the LA Galaxy forward retired from international duty, finishing top scorer in UEFA World Cup qualifying Group A with eight goals.

Sweden will hope he can find the net for the first time at the tournament proper on Saturday, when a win against reigning world champions Germany would seal their progression to the knockout stage.
